what’s the embodied way?

One of my most important inquiries, day to day, is this — what’s the embodied way?

The practice of yoga, and really any mindfulness practice that is about slowing down and paying attention, asks to be in our bodies and in our everyday lives. For me that means, consciously moving away from autopilot and instead living intentionally.

A few examples of my own embodied way —

Adjusting my schedule so I can take the long way. This means windows down, when weather allows, music I’m loving on at full volume and often a really windy path that leads me through the mountains. Keep me off the interstate whenever possible please. (Still recovering from LA, maybe.)

Drinking my coffee while it’s hot. I truly look forward to my warm beverage when I go to sleep. I try to allot enough time to get up before everybody else, put some care into it (these days it’s one shot of espresso with a scoop maca, cacao and reishi) and actually pay attention to what I’m drinking. This is often my morning meditation.

Space on my calendar. I don’t need a lot of it (motherhood shifted that real quick) but I do need unscheduled space for my own creative and quiet time. And I also love unscheduled time for spontaneous, intentional hangs. I’m definitely an extroverted introvert. Love humans and also really, really value my solo time.
