joy is not made to be a crumb

Today we celebrate Angel’s adoption anniversary, a miracle moment in the midst of 2020 and after 2.5 years of foster care.

This year the house is extra full of love, dog hair, tiny barks and snuggles. We are so grateful to have added our new little loves to the family — Rocky and Gigi.

Last night as we were sitting around the table with my parents, watching puppy madness ensue, I kept hearing the words from Mary Oliver “Joy is not made to be a crumb.”

As I get older, I am more aware of these take-your-breath-away, core memory moments. I wanna bottle them up like a firefly and relish in their magic. But it’s not possible and the magic is really in paying attention.

We love you so much, Angel Aden. You are the love of our lives and we are so lucky we just added a couple furry loves too.

P.S. Rosy, you are so felt. 🕊️ Thanks for sending these two to us and still looking out for your little brother.

“If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don’t hesitate.
Give in to it.
There are plenty of lives and whole towns destroyed or about to be.
We are not wise, and not very often kind.
And much can never be redeemed.
Still, life has some possibility left.
Perhaps this is its way of fighting back,
that sometimes something happens better than all the riches or power in the world.
It could be anything,
but very likely you notice it in the instant when love begins.
Anyway, that’s often the case.
Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid of its plenty.
Joy is not made to be a crumb.”
